This study aims to describe the implementation of Discovery Learning in teaching descriptive text in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. The lesson was designed to help students understand the structure and language features of descriptive text, particularly in describing people, through a student-centered learning approach. The teaching activity was conducted in a junior high school context as part of a teaching practice session and followed the main stages of Discovery Learning, including observing, exploring, practicing, and presenting. During the lesson, students were introduced to descriptive vocabulary related to physical appearance and personality, and they were guided to analyze example sentences before producing their own descriptive sentences. The data were obtained from classroom observation, teaching documentation, and reflective analysis of the learning process. The findings show that the use of Discovery Learning encourages active student participation and supports students’ understanding of descriptive text. Through guided discovery and collaborative activities, students were able to identify patterns in descriptive sentences and apply them in simple writing tasks. In addition, the method created a more interactive and engaging learning environment, allowing students to participate more confidently in the learning process. However, effective classroom management and time allocation are important to ensure that all stages of the activity can be implemented successfully. Overall, the implementation of Discovery Learning can facilitate meaningful learning experiences and support the development of students’ writing skills in learning descriptive text.
