The Effectiveness of Educaplay as the Teaching Media in Enhancing Students Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text at Senior High School

Abstract

Reading plays an important role in the development of academic courses, particularly at senior high school. It is essential for students to have achieved proficiency in reading comprehension. Thus, certain students face challenges with reading comprehension. Teacher as facilitator plays crucial role to overcome the challenges. The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Educaplay as teaching media in enhancing students' reading comprehension. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, with a sample of 22 senior high school students, selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests. The significance was measured with the Shapiro-Wilk and paired sample t-test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension after using Educaplay. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test (pre-test sig. = 0.263 > 0.05, post-test sig. = 0.208 > 0.05) showed that the data was normally distributed. The sample t-test (sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) showed that Educaplay was effective as a teaching media to enhance student reading comprehension. This demonstrates that Educaplay was effective in enhancing reading comprehension in narrative texts. In conclusion, Educaplay could be recommended as an effective and innovative teaching media in teaching reading, especially for narrative texts at the high school level. This media also encouraged student collaboration and creativity, increased interest in learning, and provided a more engaging and meaningful learning experience.
