This study explores learners’ perceptions of intercultural communication through the Tandem App, identifies the challenges and enabling factors encountered, and examines its role in supporting the development of intercultural communicative competence (ICC). A qualitative case study design was employed involving five active Tandem users who engaged in cross-cultural interactions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns. The findings indicate that learners perceive their intercultural experiences as positive and meaningful. The interaction enhances cultural awareness, communication strategies, and adaptability in managing misunderstandings. Several challenges were also identified, including cultural differences, communication barriers, and varying interaction dynamics. The results demonstrate that the Tandem App facilitates authentic, learner-centered interaction and contributes to the development of ICC beyond formal classroom settings.
