Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • An Ethical Clearance Letter has been obtained if the research involves human participants, animals, or other living subjects, and the ethical approval number is stated in the Methods section.
  • The manuscript has been prepared using the journal template
  • The similarity index does not exceed 20 percent based on Turnitin or equivalent software, and the plagiarism report is ready for upload
  • At least 70 percent of the references are sourced from reputable international journals and include active DOI numbers.
  • Tables and figures are properly numbered, titled, and cited in the manuscript.
  • A Cover Letter has been prepared and signed by the corresponding author.
  • References are formatted according to APA 7th style and cited sequentially in the text.

Author Guidelines

Jurnal Viva Medika is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes high-quality manuscripts in the fields of Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Public Health, Reproductive Health, Midwifery, Community Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Basic Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Maternity Nursing, Nursing Management, Gerontology Nursing, Health Technology, and Health Informatics Research. The journal upholds rigorous scientific standards, research integrity, and ethical publication practices.

Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following categories:

  1. Original Research Articles. Empirical studies employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods.
  2. Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Reviews must apply a transparent, reproducible, and structured methodology.
  3. Narrative Reviews. Critical analyses of emerging issues or theoretical developments.
  4. Case Reports. Clinically relevant cases with clear implications for practice or policy.
  5. Short Communications. Concise reports of preliminary or innovative findings.

Submitted manuscripts must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be written in formal academic English. Authors are responsible for language accuracy prior to submission.

General Format

Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word format using 11-point Times New Roman, double spacing, and 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Pages must be numbered consecutively. Please use the Template

Structure of Original Research Articles

Title Page
The title must be concise, informative, and reflect the central focus of the study. Full names of all authors, institutional affiliations, and the corresponding author’s email address must be clearly stated.

Abstract
The abstract must not exceed 250 words. It must be structured into Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

Keywords
Provide three to five keywords that represent the core themes of the manuscript.

Introduction
Present the scientific background, relevant literature, identified research gap, and clearly stated study objective.

Methods
Describe study design, setting, population or participants, sampling technique, instruments, data collection procedures, statistical or analytical methods, and ethical approval. The description must ensure reproducibility.

Results
Present findings systematically. Tables and figures must be cited in the text. Avoid repetition of data between narrative text and tables.

Discussion
Interpret findings in relation to previous literature. Explain scientific contribution, practical implications, strengths, and limitations.

Conclusion
Provide concise conclusions aligned with study objectives and findings.

Acknowledgements
Indicate funding sources and contributions. If artificial intelligence tools were used in writing, data analysis, or figure preparation, authors must transparently disclose their use in this section.

References
References must follow the APA 7th style. Citations must be numbered sequentially according to their first appearance in the text.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively and cited in the manuscript. Each table and figure must include a clear title and legend. Images must be of high resolution. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted materials.

Ethical Considerations

All research involving human participants must include a statement of ethical approval from a recognized ethics committee. The ethical approval number must be clearly stated in the Methods section.

Informed consent must be obtained when applicable.

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. The similarity index must not exceed 25 percent based on Turnitin or equivalent software.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship must comply with internationally accepted standards. Each listed author must have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation, and must approve the final version of the manuscript.

Peer Review Process and Revision Requirements

All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process. Editorial decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.

If a manuscript requires revision, authors must:

  1. Revise the manuscript according to all reviewer and editor comments within the specified timeframe.
  2. Highlight all revised sections clearly, preferably using yellow highlighting, to facilitate editorial assessment.
  3. Submit a mandatory “Response to Reviewers Form” as a separate document.

The Response to Reviewers Form is compulsory for every revised submission. The document must:

  1. Address each reviewer comment individually and sequentially.
  2. Provide a clear explanation of how each comment has been addressed.
  3. Indicate the exact location of revisions, including page and paragraph numbers.
  4. Provide a justified explanation when a recommendation is not implemented.

Revised manuscripts submitted without the completed Response to Reviewers Form will not proceed to further evaluation and may be returned to the author.

Failure to submit revisions within the designated timeframe without prior notification may result in withdrawal of the manuscript.

Submission to first decision is approximately 7 days.
Submission to acceptance is approximately 50 days.
Acceptance to online publication is approximately 12 days.
The acceptance rate is approximately 25 percent.

Submission Procedure

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

Authors must upload:

  1. Manuscript file formatted according to the journal template.
  2. Ethical clearance document for original research.
  3. Plagiarism similarity report.
  4. Cover letter signed by the corresponding author.

Publication Fees

Article Publication Charges may apply according to journal policy. Publication is free of charge for manuscripts involving international collaboration from at least two different countries.

Authors are advised to carefully review and comply with these guidelines before submission to ensure efficient processing and review.

Privacy Statement

All personal information collected through the journal system will be used solely for academic publishing purposes and will not be shared with third parties without explicit consent.

e. Ensuring transparency and research integrity

The journal does not use personal data for commercial marketing purposes.

Confidentiality in Peer Review

In accordance with the double-blind peer review policy:

a. Reviewer identities are kept confidential from authors.
b. Author identities are not disclosed to reviewers during the review process.
c. Reviewer comments are shared only with the authors and editorial team.

All editorial communications are handled securely within the journal system.

Data Security

Jurnal Viva Medika implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

Access to personal data is restricted to authorized editorial staff for legitimate publishing purposes.

Data Retention

Personal information will be retained as long as necessary for academic record keeping and journal management purposes. Published author information becomes part of the public scholarly record.

Third-Party Services

The journal may use third-party platforms for indexing, plagiarism detection, or manuscript management. Such services are selected based on their compliance with academic data protection standards.

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts do not contain confidential personal data of research participants unless proper consent and ethical approval have been obtained.
